The Power of the Internet

It's amazing what can be found on the internet.  I remember when I first bought a computer back in the mid 90's and was connected to the internet, I once found directions on how to make an atomic bomb.  I'm sure that I'd be on some sort of watchlist if I found it again today.

The power of the internet is amazing.  And I have to look no further than an email I received last week.  A university professor contacted me to ask if he could use a photo that he found posted on my flickr page.  The photo was going to be used for a "vignette" on glaciation in Franconia Notch as part of a project designed to supply teachers with mini, illustrated lessons in geomorphology.

The photo is of Boise Rock.  Whenever I head to the White Mountains in New Hampshire, I generally take pictures that I think will be visually pleasing.  Well, one day a couple of years ago I had some time to kill while waiting to meet up with a friend and decided to stop at Boise Rock and see what it was all about.  I had driven by the sign a hundred times and never once stopped.  Well, I had my camera and decided to take a few pictures.  None of them was going to be a wall hanger, but because I posted the photo on flickr, someone was able to find a picture of this specific rock and use it for the lesson plan.

Until next time.
